Jeannie Odell has asked me to send out a final call for troops who want to attend Camporee on May20-22 this year. So far we have about 100 girl scouts signed up from 6 troops. There is still plenty of room for lots of people but we need to put in the order for patches next week. If your troop is interested in coming, please contact Jeannie Odell at jpmo@frontiernet.net by the end of this week (Friday April 1st). Visit our Camporee Page for all of the information you’ll need, including links to some creative SWAP pages!

2010 Thinking Day Fair “Passport to the World” Tuesday Feb 23th 6:00 – 7:30pm at GS Program Center
Guidelines to follow for the Black Creek Service Unit Thinking Day Event:
- Pick a country that has Girl Guides, refer to link http://www.wagggsworld.org/en/world. Please e-mail me at Cheryl@lawniczak.us or call at 889-8902 as soon as you pick your country. Choose 1st, 2nd and 3rd choice in counties. Countries will be given out on a first come first served basis.
- Research Girl Guides in your chosen country and see what it is like there. Learn about Girl Scouts or Girl Guides in other countries at www.wagggsworld.org and www.girlscouts.org/girls. Pick at least 2 of the following activities for your troop to share with the other troops at the Thinking Day fair.
- Research what kind of crafts they do. Make sure you have a sample and then bring a kit with a picture of the craft and instructions to give to all the leaders that come or if it is an easy craft the girls can make the craft at your booth that night.
- Research games and songs from your country. Bring instructions and words to teach everyone and then be able to handout to all the leaders that come to the event.
- What kind of food do they eat? Bring a sample of the food and have enough to share with everyone. – If homemade write out the recipe. Also note ingredients used in case someone has allergies.
- Research your country:Make a poster with pictures from your country. Include interesting facts about the country.
- Make a sample of your country’s flag. It can be out of whatever material you would like to make it out of. Make sure you have a way to display it at your station.
- Bring a stamp/ ink pad to stamp each girl’s passport as she enters your booth. (Passports will be given out at the event.)
- Fashion show as part of Closing ceremony: Research the kind of uniform girls guides wear in the country you picked. Make a sample of the uniform to be worn by at least one girl in your troop in the fashion show/Closing Ceremony. The sample can be made out of material, paper bags, or large sheets of drawing paper or whatever you can come up with. The fashion show will be at 7:15.
There will be opening ceremony at 6:15 pm and a closing Ceremony as part of the fashion show

Here’s some additional information from the Girl Scout Site:
Each year around February 22, girls participate in activities, games and projects with global themes to honor their sister Girl Guides and Girl Scouts in other countries.
The theme for World Thinking Day 2010 is girls worldwide say “together we can end extreme poverty and hunger.”
World Thinking Day is part of the WAGGGS Global Action Theme (GAT) based on the UN Millennium Development Goals (MDGs), which aim to improve the lives of the world’s poorest people.
Girls voted and selected Germany, Kuwait, Peru, the Philippines, andSouth Africa to represent the five regions of World Association of Girl Guides and Girl Scouts (WAGGGS)—Europe, the Arab region, Western Hemisphere, Asia/Pacific and Africa. World Thinking Day not only gives girls a chance to celebrate international friendships, but it is also a reminder that Girl Scouts of the USA is part of a global community—one of nearly 150 countries with Girl Guides and Girl Scouts.
